my lfs just got in a shipment of nannacara adoketa and i would love to add these to my aquairum. its as of now, empty been cycling(fishless) for close to four weeks now and is ready for some life! my parameters are:
ammonia: 0
nitrite: 0.2
nitrate: 0.4

ph: 6.1 (approx)
dh: 12

20 gal.

what would be some good fish to add to my new tank?

Never heard of them before now, found this though:

"Inhabits black water forest streams. The water these contain is stained dark brown with humic acids and other chemicals released by decaying organic material. The dissolved mineral content is typically negligible, and the pH can be as low as 3.0 or 4.0. The dense rainforest canopy above means that very little light penetrates the water surface, and the substrate is often littered with fallen tree branches and rotting leaves."

Sounds to me like they're quite rare to come by:

"The Zebra Acara is an attractive and peaceful cichlid that makes a good addition to a medium sized community tank. It is not often, if ever, seen for sale in aquatic shops, however is relatively common amongst specialist cichlid breeders and on the auction circuit."

...and therefore are likely to be wild caught (?? worth asking the LFS on this ??), in which case trying to match the natural water parameters would be more important that normal...I'd say steer clear, especially with a newly cycled tank, and one that is only 20 gallons too! These fish reach 4" so I'd think the tank is too small for them really in the long run...

Also any level of nitrites means the tank hasn't completed the cycle yet, you need double zeroes really ;) You may have a pH drop occurring which is slowing down the process...what's the tap water pH?

i think for them i am doing a species tank.
i talked to the guy who bred these fish and supposedly these are a variant that i have never heard of?
if what he is saying is true.. this variant is only supposed to grow to be 2.5
and the tap ph is 7

Cool, if they're not wild caught you'll have no issues in your tank then and if they don't grow that big then go for it :)
Obligatory pics once settled!

p.s. from 7 to 6.1 with quite hard water suggests a bit of a pH drop that needs correcting to help the process go faster, I'd do a big water change and re-dose that cycling tank...but hey, I don't know the history etc so can only speculate....I'm sure you know what you are doing

You need to get rid of the Nitrite before you get any fish, as its been pointed out, your tank is not fully cycled.

I know this, I tested it today and it went down to 0.1 in like.. Four days. So do I have to wait another four or will a big water change help?
