I'm considering getting a small group of yoyo loaches for one of my tropical tanks, which is currently quite infested with pest snails. The snails are breeding in the filter, so even if I tore down the tank I wouldn't be able to get rid of all the snails without destroying the cycle.

The other tank inhabitants would be a female opaline gourami and an African dwarf frog. Currently I also have three female emerald catfish (which can grow to about 6") in the tank, but they'll be moving out soon. The tank was set up with the cats' adult sizes in mind, so there should be plenty of room for at least 3 or 4 yoyo's.

The water conditions are ideal for all, if just a little on a hard side for the loaches.

The pest snails mowed down most of the plants, but there's currently a large piece of driftwood and the hardier of the plants still in the tank, which provide a fair amount of hiding space. Right now the substrate is Flourite and gravel, but if I do decide to get the loaches then I'll change it to sand.

Most of the sites I've looked at for yoyo info have said that they're generally okay with semi-aggressives, which fits my opaline to a T. She'll sometimes chase the cats if they wander into "her" area of the tank during the day, but she doesn't bother with them after they've moved away. I often find her sleeping next to the cats in the cat's sleeping area at the back of the tank. She completely ignores the frog, as well as the ottos that used to also be in the tank.
