I just finished re-organizing the mass amount of accumulated aquarium stuff I have. Everything from gravel and little decorations to a 5 gallon aquarium and realized just how much I had. There are two medium sized boxes worth out in storage now plus the stuff under my 10g which is for the weekly/monthly maintenence. I have another orange plastic container with stuff I plan to use soon (driftwood, fake plants) and a smaller box next to it with various sized seashells for my upcoming shellie tank and for a saltwater tank in the future both in my closet. This doesn't include the spare 10 gallon sitting on my floor.

So, what does everyone else do with their spare/extra/unneeded aquarium equipment? I'm actually not a packrat contrary to the above; most of the stuff is still useful in the future but for now I haven't got any use for it. There is a hood and some old filters I suspect are broken but I was/am just too exhausted to set them up and test them out.

Save it in a plastic container box for a rainy day ! ;)

I have loads of bits and bobs - filters, heaters, small tanks etc.
Everything perfectly sorted in little bags with manuals and all B)

I keep them in a spare corner in my fish closet. It's all organized...little containers for filters, heaters, etc.

Hi Teelie, depending on what country you reside. I post my stuff for sale on craig's list. The site has a pet section as well as a general merchandise section. You can also try to auction them off if you are a memeber of a fish club. There is also Aquabid.com.

Get rid of fish stuff!!!!! :hyper:  :X :S :look:

I have boxes of the stuff, and most of the time it sits packed up. If I were to get rid of any of it, I know I would surely be needing it the following week. This even includes rocks.

Exactly my thinking. :D I have only thrown out a few things, mostly broken stuff like a temperature gauge that was cracked by a goldfish early on in my fish keeping "career" and the odd filter or ornament.

I know some of you have been in fish keeping for decades and probably accumulated quite a bit, or would if you kept it all. I'm trying to decide myself what to keep, trash, and sell. Most of it isn't worth selling on it's own (and we don't have a craiglist listing within 2 hours of me) so for now it's all being boxed up though if anyone has any ideas or suggestions on what to do with it, I'd love to know.

Some of the more tacky stuff like colored gravel and ornaments I plan to use for a "tacky tank" which may or may not have water and fish actually in it. It'll be my little tribute to the beginnings of my fishkeeping.

any 2nd hand used substrate I chuck or use in the garden somewhere. damp substrates can harbour many things and for the cost of new stuff it isn't worth the hassle!

everything else i may find useful in the future is stashed in various boxes and cubboards.

All of the substrate I have is dried and I'd clean it before using it anyways. Still, may do what you said anyways as I may never use it again.

it might jus be because i'm lazy, but a bag of sand is £3 odd so anything old or unwanted is usually chucked.

Keep spares of EVERYTHING. And then if you still have extras left, sell off anything that is vauable... and finally, if you still have things left give it away to friends/family who are into the hobby or get your friends/family into the hobby.

I keep most things, but not much point in keeping something you really can't see yourself using, so If I know someone who could use or want it then I give it to them (or sell). No point in it collecting dust if it could be put to good use. Like I said though, never hurts to have extra filters/heaters/couple small tanks around jusst incase...

I just have odds and ends like a filter, two 1/2g bowls, some brushes to clean UGF pipes, and just odds and ends.
