My LFS has said he will take my Angels, Now that I have decided on Which to Keep.

Problem is now what to get to replace them as the Tank will Look a little Bare.
I would love a Discus, and he has had aStunning Juvie in for about 2 Months Now.
No-one has Bought him, and I has reserved him untill I research More.

This is what he/She Looks Like and Almost excat Mini Duplicate

I am Not Gonna Mention the Price as I know They Are very Highly Priced - and He has them @ very low price ATM

Or should I wait for next weeks HUGE order to arrive and see what Else he gets In.

I am So tempted but I don't wanna Risk the Fish if its not Compatible.

I am gonna get some RO water, because the ecess of metals in my Water ATM.

if your asking if you should get one of those discus, i say do it ! those are some beautiful pics and if you say you can get some for a good price, i would do it !

...except that they are unlikely to do well alone, they need to be in a shoal, particularly as juvenilles.
They are not the easiest fish to keep, so I'd recommend doing a fair bit of research before buying them.

WOW.
They are beautiful fish. They look like RT.

Keep doing research on discus. They can be very touchy when being introduced to a new tank. Once they settle in they are pretty tough fish.

wow, nice colors

If you introduce him/her just keep an eye on them, dont want it to bring anything unwanted into the tank, or being a bully.

But that is a great discus i love the colors on it

Thanks for the Info Guys.

I have been Eyeing the Discus for Months now, Since he got them in. He was rather Sneeks and kept them in a Tank on the Tallest rack theat you need a ladder - just to see whats in it.

He only recently Moved them to Eye Level

I've Got Thursday Off, So I am Taking My Angels Back then. He is Very Tempting. And if his Colors stay As they are then He is a Keeper. He has 6 Other Discus in the Tank. a 30gallon Extra Long.

I Will See how much I get for the Angels 1st then Contemplate.

If he is getting more Discus Next Week then I will Wait.

I am Tempted to Be really Sneaky and See if he needs a Hand On Delivery Day. then I am sure to get qst pick - Might have to fight his Son for the Nicest Fish though

For young discus to do well they need to be kept in groups of at least 6 fish and they require very clean water to do well. Most people take care of this with daily water changes and a bare bottom tank. Also if the fish is less then 4 inches and showing much color then it is probably hormoned. That normally shortens the life of the fish from about 10 years to about 14 months.

Good luck.

I have kept discus as a single discus when young and he did great, grew faster than all the others and was alot healthier. Maybe i got lucky or something but just thought i'd share.

There is always an exception but most of the time you will not get good growth or health in that situation.

you can indeed keep a discus as a single discus. My very first fish was a discus. I only bought him cuz i got him on clearence at my lfs. I got him for only 5 bucks. The trick to keeping a single discus is to give him some tank mates. If he sees some neons or other small, non nippy characins he will feel more secure. Keep him in a small tank. a 20 high would be perfect for a single discus. I also kept mine with small angles. The big appetite of the angles will help get the discus to feed faster. Do not be alarmed if the discus hides for the first few days. he will eventually come out to feed. No fish will let himself starve. Also make sure you put the discus in a high traffic area of your house. If you don't he might get skitish when ever you enter the room.

If you plan to get more discus try to get then in pairs and always keep an even amount. Buying discus in atleast pairs will spread the aggression of the other discus out a bit. Discus might be peacefull but they do have a 'pecking order' in their group. The reason that you want to keep an even amount of discus is because the 'buddy up'. Even if they don't pair up to breed they do seem to buddy up a bit. The odd fish might get picked on more if there are an odd amount of discus in the tank.

I had my 7 discus for 7 years in a 75 gollan until an internal parasite cleared them out on me. I think the parasite was introduced by live blood worms.

Anyway you have my thumbs up on buying him.

p.s. Don't waste your time on the R.O. water. From my experience it doesn't really matter these days unless you intend to breed them. Just make sure that you change 25% of the water once a week. Keep the ph at around 6.5 to 6.8. If you add a piece of drift wood to the tank eventually it will keep the ph down to 6.5 or so naturally WITHOUT adding chemicals.

Thank You again for all your input.

Please excuse my typing My fingers are still bandaged up and typing is a little tricky

discus need and have to be in groups.
i would put a hold on him and wait till next week and buy him and others.
They are much happier that way, and im sure you will enjoy 5/6 more then 1.
And don't bother with the neons, they will be gone in up to 2 weeks with discus in as they are their natural food

Good luck and beautiful Discus

If you want long term success with discus then please don't get only one. You may have some limited success with a single but you will never have long term success with that approach.
