You People Have Ruined Cartoons For Me!

Can I ask if it's worse too see a cartoon like tom and jerry where the characters are clearly not real, or to read a book to kids where something terrible happens?

Cartoons are more disconnected from reality than characters in a novel may be to some.

To follow the "kids see it and think it can be done" line.

I bet a number of kids see plays about JC and a fair few of them have the ability access to some 2x2 and nails (or improvisations thereof). Yet we don't hear about them crucifying each other all that often.

If a child's education on how things are/should be done in life comes from a cartoon then I feel there is a small gap that needs filling in the upbrining of that child.

It happens to me whenever I see this liquid dish soap commercial with an animated goldfish in less than a gallon of water. I'm so distracted by the fact that they're reinforcing the goldfish in a bowl idea that I never remember what they're trying to advertise. At least they didn't use a real fish though.

Anyone (this is prob just in the states) see the Kid's Asthma commercial? It has a goldfish out of water flopping around demonstrating how it feels like to a kid yadda yadda.... everytime I see that I get mad- first they DID that on purpose, and second they then return the fish to it's BOWL. RAWR!

I'm not saying that it shows children they can keep a fish in a bowl I'm just saying I'm so busy thinkin wel that fish needs at least this size and that's not compatable with that one that i really forget to follow the plot!!!

Very distracting I know what you mean about fish tanks in public places though I have to check they're not overstocked and dyed it frives my boyfriend crazy!

Ah, not to stray too far off topic, but you have the power of veto when reading a book to a three year old, if it looks to be getting a bit scary, you just reword the line or leave it out and improvise, and generally, I don't read horror stories to my baby, though I was a bit worried about Mr McGreggor having put Peter's father in a pie, but Dylan just asked why and I told him he ate him and he was like "oh, alright".

i like this ad though:

(and the music is by oceansize <3)
That one's cool. I really like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKEf-Sc6ytQ&NR

both of those videos were amzing and they both made you happy that the fish got out of the bowel and got into the "big" water.

only thing though... i hope they used CG to create the fish (especially in the 2nd one) as it would probably cause alot of stress to have a fish laying gasping for air on a sidewalk.

but they are very powerful for fish lovers and put the point across that goldfish don't want to be in a bowel they want more *insert marketing ploy* so why would you want less?

it pushes people to think about better living conditions for their fish :D

did you say "kid's cartoons" :shifty:
a kid is with you watching and you just can't change the program?

Yes that is what i dislike too- goldfish are still seen as the cheap throw-away pets parents buy their kids when they don't want to fork out £20 for that new action man toy, they buy the kids a bowl and a goldfish instead for £5.
These idea's are reinforced even more when people show people keeping goldfish in bowls on TV, as a lot of people are influenced to a large extent by the things they see on TV.
Sometimes its hard to explain to people why you shouldn't keep goldfish in bowls when they say stuff like "Oh well, i saw so-and-so keeping their fish in a bowl on TV, so so-and-so must be right 'cos they are on TV!".

all of this is very true. i had to step in at my lfs recently and tell a woman known of those fish will work together. the employee didnt hear the convo, but they know most of the people there (regulars like me) and know what is in their tanks. the reason for this is that it's a small town and not many people. well this woman was like my son kills fish so quck i am getting him a bunch of the cheap fish. i thought to myself well ok they are feeder guppiesd and comets so we;ll see how this goes. she told me she was going to put them in a tank that was like 2.5 gallons. i was liek that is exactly why they keep dieing. you need a much larger tank and you need to cycle it. no matter what i said this woman was so convinced why bother my son is jsut going to kill them anyways that she ignored me. i even explained to herall the reasons why.

but it goes for the same thing. if someone idolizes someone they will lsiten to what they say. but, like if some arrogant person said to me "i know this is right and you don't know anything. brad pit kept his oscar in a 10 gal tank. he's on tv so he must know." i would jsut smack them and simply say "they are on tv for their looks not their intelligence".

sorry i had ot add that in there.
