i recently upgraded my 2ft tropical, and my mum said i would have to sell my 2ft tank. However today she has decided i can keep the tank and divide it and use each half for bettas!!!

I have one male betta at the moment who is looking forward to the upgrade!

However i need to know, where can i get a divider from that gets siliconed in place as the tank has a glass lip at the top so i couldnt hook anything over. im in the UK and all of the dividers i have seen are clear, where can i get ones that arent clear so the males dont fight eachother.

Im really wanting an exotic looking male as it will be a present for my mum for her 60th.

im sooo excited!!!!!! :shout:

Hi
Dont worry too much about the divider being clear. I use Penn plax dividers and after about 3-4 weeks the are no longer clear. Get some of those A4 document binders and use aquarium silicone to stick them in and use the penn plax divider cut to size.

where can u get penplax divider?
I can get the plastic binder things from my college for 50p

would normal coloured acrylic be okay? if i drill lots of little holes in it?
I worry about the betta trying to get through the holes and getting his head stuck! :(

Thats what i did initially. Only thing is, its a pain making sure there are no rough edges once you've drilled through. make sure the holes are quite small 3mm and i found it easier to mark out a grid and then drill it on a piece of wood.
A lot of lfs sell penn plax, or dpfishways do them on line.

are the penn plax holes big enough for the betta's to injure themselves?
what sort of attachment does the penn plax one come with? is it an over the edge hook or is it adaptable so i can use the ring binder thing?

also do the penn plax ones stay clear? i dont want to stress my current boy.

thank you for your help bronzecat!!

Hi
The pennplax come with the hangers, so ditch those. They are clear but over a few weeks they will go opaque. The males will flare up to start with but they soon settle down :good:
The holes are fine, otherwise they couldn't sell them.
this is one of mine

The coconut shells stay down without any weights :good: Our bettas love em

also is it possible to trim dividers, if they are a tiny bit too wide or too high?

Yep :good: I just used the kitchen scissors :good: Make sure you leave as much height as possible out of the water just in case one decides to try the high jump

We have a number of juvenile males at present. Some are showing some really good colour :good: Also we have a really super turquoise metalic sd/hm. I'll get Netty to pm the pic if you like?

ooo yes please i would love to see them, i want one that will show up on the black background... i have a light blue green one at the moment - so i would like a striking contrast....

will take me a little while to get the tank ready, but i really want a stunning betta and yours are always amazing!! :hyper:

I'm at work so Netty will sort some pics out for you :good:
