Could I get a yes or no to this? German rams, apistos, dicus, angels bad idea or good idea? I do not have my tank yet so open to suggestions on tank size as well. I just trying to get a sense of where to really spend my time researching. Thanks!

what size is the tank? i find angels to be really territorial and nippy towards other cichlids, also make sure you go for apistos that match the requirements of the discus/rams

Discus are very fragile and expensive. I wouldn't recommend them to a beginner aquarist. What size is your desired tank?

It's really hard to tell what is a good idea or bad idea or yes or no with so little information. It really all depends on how much time you're willing to dedicate to your tank, how big of a tank you want to get, and what kind of community you're trying to raise.

Unless of course you're asking if you should mix all of them together, which imo is a no. Angels can be nippy and territorial, and discus need a high temperature that most fish don't tolerate well. Maybe german blue rams would work. I don't know much about apistos in general.

Right now I'm just trying to figure out what I want. I'm the type who researches things to death before I do it. So trying to see what the big don't dos are. We have had fish before but that was years ago and I always had lots of bettas or your basic fish. We are looking at everything from a 75 gallon to a 220 gallon. Depends on where we decided to put it and what I want in it. I would call myself a intermediate fish keeper. Im starting remember a lot as I get into it again. Funny all the little things that come back. And all the oh I knew thats. I would like a way to make that group work. I have heard of angels and discus getting along. I have a thread going http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=380421&view=getnewpost that has my fish list in it. Any tips on it would be great. Trying to narrow it down.

Ehh.. I'd love to have angels and discus together someday too, but I just don't know about the angels temperament. Some of them are peaceful, but others can be little monsters. Discus are expensive, fragile, and god forbid I don't know what I would do if I lost one because of an angelfish having a temper tantrum. I'm also not even sure if an angelfish would appreciate the high temperature that discus like.

I think rams and apistos will work as tank mates. German blues also appreciate a high temp, and they're very peaceful. I don't know anything about apistos, though. But if you find one that can tolerate a temperature up in the mid 80's, I don't see why not.

one of my angels bit the bottom lip off another one of my angels, it also chases and nips at my heckelii and firemouth cichlids which are bigger than it

angels go great with bns and swordtails but for a cichlid community they tend to become an annoyance
