i have two different tanks, a 20 gall filled with some comunity fish, and a 25 gallon, deep, it is filled with nothing but a monster driftwood, gravel, and thats about it, i want to put these following plants in the 25 and let them provide comfort, eating, and scenic view for my semi-aggressives to come in the very short future..

i bought a micro sword grass off of ebay just today, i want grass on the bottum and that seems like it grows rapidly...

- i have a huge african sword whom i will trim and put in the 25 out of my 20 gal. tank

-i have a litttle potted plant, no quite sure what it is, maybe another sword, but its small

and thats it, i have a big center piece of drift wood in teh tank and would like to grow plants on it, and i would like to have grass speard through out the bottum of the tank, and to have it well planted, although its only 3 i decided to start small, i also bought plant gro - a iron inriched plant fertalizer, so i think that will help

is there any special things i need to get for my little plants and my tank, yet again i only have 3 dif. kinds of plants in it, i will keep my lighting on for 10 hours a day or more, if needed, and will treat the plants with plant grow.... and i do have gravel if that was needed for me to tell, its white gravel, not plant gravel....

so please help and let me know what i should do to get this little tank started..

Hi
I am no expert but if you read the pinned articles at the top of the section plus the thread (from the beginning my planted tank) you should be able to pick up a lot of tips.
With my driftwood I attached java fern plants to it with a bit of fishing line. After a few weeks it will have rooted to the driftwood and you can remove the fishing line
I attached java moss to the other driftwood with the same method.
What you can and cant grow is mainly determined by lighting levels but there are some plants like javafern/java moss/elodea densa/hornwort and various crypts
and swords that are extremely hardy and will survive at low light levels
Sorry I cant be of more help
good luck

thats some pretty well needed answers thank you for your help, you did indeed help me with the fishing line i have heard of that before, but never thought about it, i shall do that... here is a flik of my tank (the one that will be covered with micro sword grass, and amazon swords .... plus probably some java moss..)

let me know what you think ;)

ok well there is my tank, as you can see i have a mazon sword (2 one leaf of the big one branched another little one, so i pruned it off and planted it next to the driftwood.) i have a potted plant, whome is in the front left corner, not sure what it is, it said it was a charlie, but its not...

some newby questions :

CO2 or whatever, what is it??... i have searched, what does it do, is it expensive?? do i need it for a 25 gallon????

pruning plants, how do you do it?...just cut wherever, and whatever off?

adding big stones to my tank, putting in nice stones as a decoration, just regular sized oval rocks (2'' maybe) can i just get some ol' regular stone out of the ground and wash it off, buy one at a pet store, or what do i have to do to get one????

drift wood, if i got just a natural piece of drift wood on the side of a lake, how would i disinfect it??...just boil it, or soak it in a hot tub for a day??

are natural plants (plants found in lakes) safe for my tank, is it ok to take a small portion of them for mine, or will it kill my other plants/fish, or is it harmful??

please help as i am a newb to planted tanks and would really like to get a flush green tank soon
