hi, i brought some hardwood around a week ago and its made my water really really yellow i cant see in it thats how bad it is . so i took the hardwood out and boiled it for over a day and its still giving out lots of yellow and the yellow in the tank wont clear up :dunno: . this is really making me upset and am ready to give up and sell my tank :/ and suggestions please will be very helpful.

also i have a magic jet 1000 filter and it seems to powerful for my tank which is 4ft x 15" x 12". thanks :*)

What kind of wood is it? Tanins are completely harmless and temperary - to get rid of a tank for this seems silly, but it's your choice - it would seem more sensible to just go with another type of wood if this one is so persistant. Carbon can help clear the coloring, but if it's that bad it would take a lot of carbon.

As for the powerhead, I wouldn't think it's too powerful. Are the fish having trouble with the current?

I had maponi wood leave tannins in my tank for a while....soaking it was pointless.

Now it's fine...I just ran a carbon filter and done small water changes every other day. No more tannins.

Some fish actually like it....makes them feel more secure. But if you are like me, I like the water crystal clear.

;)

its just some hardwood root from my lfs, i havnt got any fish yet as i am doing a fishless cycle but if a peice of debri gets in the way of it then it will shoot it to the other side of the tank, thanks for all your help
