YELLOW TANG
Zebrasoma Flavescens
The Yellow Tang is one of the top 10 marine fish on the market due to it's fantasticly bright yellow body colour and its unusual body shape. This tang comes from the Indio-pacific Ocean and is classed as an animal for any marine keepers due to it's hardiness in the aquarium. It requires lots of space for swimming as in it's natural enviroment it swims great distances each day!
Common names are Yellow Tang, Yellow Surgeon Fish, Yellow Salfin Tang
Minimium tank size is 75-100Gallon
Temperament is semi-aggressive as the Tang is very terroritorial. It likes to be the top dog in an aquarium and will likely fight in order to establish it's place. It is especially aggressive towards other tangs.
Eats algae and meaty foods, the tang eats algae in the wild. It's diet should be comprised of algae based foods such as nori seaweed or marine flakes. The tang will also take meaty foods and should be offered them on a regular basis.
Temperature should be keep within normal range of about 73-80 degrees.
Reef Safe? Yes completely
Size for a fully grown Yellow Tang will reach 6 inches but has been known to grown to 8 inches. Males will normally grow bigger than the females.
Hardiness? Very Hardy provided this fish is given adequate space for swimming and fed as mentioned above. The Tang is very prone to marine ich, especially so if stressed, which is why it should be provided with ideal conditions.
Type of species is Tang.
Breeding is unlikely in a marine aquarium.
