Yellow Platy Has White Strands Coming Out From Below

got 2 yellow Platies today and the femail has long white strands coming out from below, the under belly, she seems fine and is swimming, but now we have had the 3rd strand coming. The broken strands just float to the bottom of the tank.

Any ideas on what this is? I am fairly new to keeping fish so any help would be great.

She may have internal parasites, or it could be her diet. What is her regular diet?

You will need a anti internal bacterial med to treat this.

omg i have had a nightmare with these b4
first of all do they have scissor tails
if so u have worms.
Save any fish now that havent got it . yi wud recomend sterilising your tank. the worm fish will prob die

Long stringy white poo can be constipation, internal parasites, bacterial infections.

Do they look like poo or worms.

Have you recently changed their diet?

I got something like this from one platy when I started feeding vegetables. I think she was just having a good clear out. Its been a few weeks now and none of the other fish have had it, and the one with symptoms is fine now.

thanks for all the advice.
It looks like it was long white poo. The shop said it should be OK and in fact a few days later all seems well.
Had a sleepless night over this but all the fish seem well and fine, so big relief.

long white stringy poo isa sign of internal parasites i believe. i have had this before and shortly the fish become very skinny and can die!

i recommened a medicationcalled Ultra Cure PX, it is orange and gel based so it floats in the water like food.
