Hiya my dad recently gave me a 60 litre tank with about 20 - 30 yellow labs I brought a pleco yesterday and the yellow labs where biting it so I've had to split the tank for it to grow a bit as it's only about 2 inches has anyone got any advice for me as I don't want it to kill the pleco
Thanks lee

Well, first bit of advice is that you need a much bigger tank if you want to keep the labs once they're past 3 or so cm: even a 200 litre tank would barely take 1 male and 3 female labs, at a push and if they were well tempered.

What species of pleco is it?

Ok thanks i have been looking for a bigger tank the labs are 3 - 5 cm

Sorry to be harsh but...

If it is a common plec, I personally would not touch them with a barge pole. They grow huge and are poo machines. If you wanted a pleco I would have gone with afew bristlenoses, just as pretty and they breed very easily once settled.

Sorry to be harsh but I would take it back to where you got it and get something else.

You will never be able to get rid of it when it really gets big (although the pet shop may take pity on you and take it off your hands for nothing).

Also I would keep an eye out for a much bigger tank (200 litres+)for the labs, the tank size might have something to do with the aggression towards the Pleco.

Good luck

Leeg1991, what will you do?

The pleco needs at least a 4*2*2 ft tank and should have the 6*2*2 ft, realistically. The labs need to be moved to a larger tank ASAP or they will be stunted and that many would need a tank the same size as the pleco does, when they get larger still.
