That was an excited eeeek by the way.

Last night when feeding my fish I noticed a tiny EY fry....VERY obviously an EY fry though not yellow yet (kinda cream colour). I tried catching it but it was very good at disappearing when the net went near it and coming out when the net went away. So I left it there.

I have no idea when this guy was born, I am guessing sometime in the last week or so....I am also guessing that where there is one seen there are many hidden.

Question....how can I get food to this little guy since it is obvious I will not be able to catch it without dismantling my whole tank? I am going to try slipping an algae wafer in between the rocks where other fish can go....will the fry have a nibble at this? If I put fry food in would it get any after the other vultures in there finish?

The other fish in there are 4 Peacocks (fully grown), 6 yellow labs (all fully grown but 2). Cyrtocara moorrii (1/2 size) amd clown loaches (about 3 inches long each)......

HELP!!!!!!

Hey

Nice, a surviver. One of the things I like about letting them fend for their own is you really do get the survival of the fittest. Chances are there are a couple that you haven't seen, but the chances are also that most of them have become fish food.

Don't worry about sneaking food to them, it isn't easy. Luckily you'd be amazed at what they can find on their own, and I've had them grow big enough to come out for food at feeding time just by leaving them alone. The survival percentage tends to be very low, and it really depends on many variables in the aquarium, of course.

All I can say is if he survives, great, but if not, don't worry - these guys really never do stop breeding. If you want to save the fry, next time remove the female before she spits - the survival rate of the fry in a seperate tank is close to 100%. Of course, if you want to save every one, look into purchasing many tanks to accomadate these avid breeders!

cheers

you got pvc pipes in your tank?(or atleast heard of these ppl doing that?) well they make pvc pipe alot smaller too, for running water lines... buy some of that piping and toss it in your tank, only fry can get in there and itll help save um, maybey

either that OR slicone a bunch of miduim sized rocks u can get at a creek(boil um first) that way no fish bigger then a 1/4 a inch can get between the rocks and the fry can have there own little eco system...
