not urgent as i noticed it instantly and i have no fish in the water, im cycling at the moment. my new nutrafin CO2 system was failing so i did i DIY version. well it bubbled way to much (i added disolved sugar so the yeast just ate and ate super fast) and a little bit of yeast went into my tank. i did a 40l water chang which is 20% and the UV light should kill all remaining yeast and im planing on doind another 20% water chang tomorow and the day after that then chang to 10% ubntill ive chang the whole of the tank water. would this be okay as im cycling with NO fish in it. and now i've added the stabiliser the CO2s not throughing asmuch.
is yeast dedly to fish and are my water changes adiquite.
shang hi :good:
P.S. it's only been cycling for 6 days so far, and sorry for any miss spelling, im not very good on that frontear

I had a similar mishap a few weeks ago. I have not seen any ill effects on my fish as yet, though the planst appeared to suffer. Filter floss will remove it, avoiding the need for all those back-braking waterchanges. If you cannot get filter floss, then the waterchanges will help. Have you considered upping the amount you are changing to 50% daily, stopping when it is clear? It would clear the cloudyness more quickly, but I appreciate that on a tank as large as yours, 50% waterchanges will be a lot of hard work.

ive got a UV light in the filter so my dad recons that it will kill the yeast when it passes it, and im doing the water changs aswell because of my bogwood made my water a tiny bit yellow. anyway it got me into the mood to do a few 10% water changes in my biOrb. i think me not adding any bicarb of soda may of caused the big eruption in CO2 inside the canaster.

UV may not always kill paracites and other nasties passing through it. It all depends upon how the UV is set up. In most fw-trop tanks, they are used to combat algea, thus have a reasonably high flow rate, meaning that paracites like whitespot are not greatly effected by the UV, as the paracite is not exposed to the light for long enough. If the same applies to yeast, then the UV probibly won't be doing much. Killing the yeast is also not necisarily good, as as it rots, it will produce ammonia. I know your fishless cycling atm, but depending upon how much yeast got in, the rotting yeast could raise the ammonia into leels that are not desirable.
TBH, my plant die off with the yeast may have been a coincidence, as I cannot see how it would harm plants. IMO, it probibly isn't doing any harm and may be best left alone other than you waterchanges and/or filter floss.

oh i forgot to say how much yeast went into the tank, i caught it after about 3 seconds and a few bubbles and i instantly tock the cap off the system, so only a tiny amout went into the tank. anyway they UV is inside my filter and it spends about 2-3 mins inside it giving it a 1min exposire rate to the UV, anyway thankyou for the advise.

I doubt with such a small amount in the tank, that any damage is done. Diden't know they made filters with build-in UV, but a 1 min exposure rate is unusualy high. It's not necisarily a bad thing though, it realy depends on what you want to use the UV for

Yeah they do make them I saw his broken one in the shop that he took back.

I nearly wiped out my planted tank with yeast recently. The issue isn't the yeast, it's the alcohol it creates when it metabolizes. I don't think that filter floss will cut it, though activated carbon should help absorb it.

only about 7 bubbles got into the tank and i did a 45 liter water change and im going to do a 20 liter one soon.

okay well i think ive got a sulution, ive added a 250ml bottle with 2 holes in the top, both with tubes in, the bottle has about 100ml of water and the rest air, the tube coming from the CO2 canister is in the water so i can see the bubbles and the tube going into the tank is not in the water but at the top of the bottle so if it dies happen again the whole bottle has to fill up before any "Foam" will go into my tank.
