my female caucatoides had been missing for a few days, so i figured there were more eggs, and this morning i saw her and she had probably about 100 little fry tagging along. this is their third batch since i got them (about 3 months ago). they sure don't waste any time...

Congratulations!.....Again! My females can never seem to make it that far; they always end up gobbling the eggs (they've each only have had eggs 1 time).

What are your water parameters (pH, Nitrate, hardness)? I'd like to know what gets yours to spawn so often. My tap water here is very hard and has a high pH. I've been trying to get my pH where they like it using RO water, but mine don't have eggs as often.

i'm not sure, but i think i have pretty soft water here and the ph is around 6.5 and nitrate is 0. i don't know what it is, i don't do anything special, maybe they think they're rabbits...

what do you feed yours? i feed mine pretty much exclusively frozen food

i got a few pics where you can see the new babies with mama

i got lucky and got her yawning. i guess raising fry is hard work! :p

i saw something pretty funny tonight. i was watching her chase away tankmates and she does this by flying fullspeed into them. then one of the fry from her previous batch (that i haven't been able to catch yet) started getting too close and instead of doing her kamikaze act, she just flared her fins out and slowly advance on the fry, which flared up and slowly backed away. she just made sure it moved away enough and then went back to the new babies. it was like she was telling it, i know you're my offspring but if you don't back up you're gonna get your a$$ beat.

wow!congrats!
fantastic pics too,
DD

thanks man.

in your profile it says you have a few cauc fry, but i didn't see adults listed? what happened to them and how old are your fry?

i saw something pretty cool tonight, i was looking at mama and the babies and i thought i saw her eat one, but turns out i guess it was getting a little too far from the group and she picked it up in her mouth and spit it out back in the group. pretty cool to see, i'd never seen her do that before

well, once the last batch gets a little bigger, i'm selling them. once their tank is empty i'm going to try to catch some of this new batch and move them into the growout tank.
