I have had my tank runnin since sept and did a fishless cycle and added my fold stock of fish, I've recently added some new fish 5 harlequins and 3 corys and I'm having some ammonia in my tank, which I am doing regular water changes, but when I'm testing the water I'm not seeing and increase in my NitrItes, why??

I have been adding the bacteria to boost exsiting stock due to new fish added but nothing, what would you recommend??

To be on the safe side would I be better in buying some more sponges and doing a mini cycle in a bucket and grow some more bacteria and swap the sponges over?? It has been going on for a week if not slightly longer and I'm getting concerned!

your nI bacteria may be a stronger colony than your ammo bacteria. This means that your nI is being converted to nA as quickly as the ammo bacteria are converting ammo into nI. As long as your filter is large enough and powerful enough to support the bioload in your tank the ammo bacteria should catch up soon. I'm a bit surprised they haven't caught up yet. I wouldn't worry too much...just give it a bit of time and keep on with the water changes. If it goes on much longer you may want to consider adding an additional filter to the tank, or if there is room in your filter you may want to add some additional filter media. I hope I'm right and I hope this helps.
