Well today I got quite the surprise!!! It appears the midas is a female after all!! I had noticed it kinda hovering around the rock in its tank, but hadn't thought anything of it. Today I did a water change and I saw them -- hundreds of eggs!! They're not fertilized of course, being that she's in a tank by herself, but geez! I never would have expected that! This also explained why she was trying to attack my hand the other day, I guess. I hadn't noticed the eggs earlier because they blend in so well with the dappled rock

Edit: I scraped a few off the rock with my gravel vac because they are starting to grow fungus, but Marie Antoinette got so upset and angry that I decided to leave the majority of them in there. What a good mommy
I guess she'll eat them eventually :dunno:

Maybe the egg fairy visited! ;)
Haha, good one BettaMomma

I'm really excited about this, even though I know the eggs won't hatch... it tells me that she'll be a good mommy if I ever do decide to breed her
