My family actually owns a local landscaping supply center here in cincinnati and we actually sell rocks to local fish shops and pond/aquatic garden stores to sell again. they usually mark the items up over 1000% and all they do is clean them very well with a bleach solution and rinse.

That much is true.
I went to a LFS on monday and saw they had Cascade cannister filters on sale marked down.
They had cascade 1200's marked down from $229 down to $199. Meanwhile I bought mine from Big Al's for $99

Clearly Big Als' is making a profit which means the LFS is making a killing
