Hello all, I have just discovered this place. Very exciting  . I have a new tank with livebearers and I'm stoked about it! (except 7 of my 21 fry just died :byebye: , and I'm baffled :dunno: ... fighting my PH on a daily basis... could that be it?) I also work at a pet/fish store... so the more I learn, the merrier! Looking forward to meeting and chatting with you all.

Cheers B)

Hi and welcome to the forum

:)

What do you mean by fighting your PH? too low or high. With PH it is more important to keep it constant than to have the exact right PH. More important at your stage is the ammonia cycle (read about that in the pinned topics).

Hope you get it sorted and this is the place to be for advice.

its always waay high!(the PH) grrr. and i thought i did the cycle thing... but maybe i didnt do it well enough. hmph. i cycled well at first but then changed the gravel about 2 weeks ago(didnt like the previous colour).. was that a bad move? oh, and i added an ammonia insert into my filter about a week ago now too (just because i thought it was the intelligent thing to do.) and one other thing... i heard your not supposed to do any water changes until youve had fish in and running for about 2-3 months.... is that true?

so... why is my pH alays climbing? is it the ammonia, the cycling thing, the gravel... help!

water changes are essential at teh beginning to keep your fish alive. :) could you tell us your test results for ammonia, nitrIte and pH?

welcome to the forum, hope you enjoy it here. :)
