wow ive only had him a day and theres no female

So it is 100% normal for males to have bubble nests is it?, because i have about 7 or so of these guys in there own tanks and there are all nests there.

Probably because he is adjusting to his surroundings - it might take up for 2 weeks until he eats.

PS. Unless you are feeding him flakes, they really don't like them. Get pellets instead.

Most of my males have been building Bubble nests and there is no females in with them its really weird, but the one that does have the females in isnt bothered about them but I cant swap them round because if I place the female in with another male it may give them fin rot because the male which is not bothered about them has fin rot and the female may have it and pass it on.

My one male built a bubble nest the day after i purchased him, he hasnt built one since then, but now my other male well he built 3 in the last 4 days.... I think he fancies me....lol
As far as eating goes it does take them quite a while the first 2 days they wouldent eat at all, so i have been coaxing them on mosquito lavae, they have began to eat better now, but they dont like it when im watching them :/

strange, i have 5 bettas and NONE of htem had problems with eating hwen i bought them home. By teh 2nd day they're already be chomping down the betta pellets when i put htem in the tank, and i'td be gone before it even hits the bottom of hte tank.

I fed them betta bites btw :) good luck with you all

if your betta comes from a pet store-chances are he will not eat for a few days.
some of my bettas always blow nests and some never do. dont go buy a female just because he is blowing a nest. breeding is not something you need to jump right in to. it takes a lot of planning.

oh yeah-i have seen some of my females blow nests too :fun:

Very cool that your fish is building bubble nests....

My old Betta never did that.... :D

Males build nests for a lot of reasons, not just because they need a girlfriend.

A lot of the time it's just because their happy. A lot of bettas build nests right after you get them because they are happy to be in clean water and a bigger bowl/tank. A lot of my bettas make nests after I feed them live foods. IMO it's a sign of being happy as well as a sign he's ready for a girl. But keep in mind if you don't get a female there is nothing wrong with that. He doesn't HAVE TO mate.
