my red male VT betta 'Anton' had become really depressed since i bought him, at the LFS he was in a tank with sunset platies and neon tetras he had become miserable with no company, i decided something risky, i'd put him in my main tank (50gal) my only concern was the angels, they are notoriously nippy to newcomers, anyways, i put him in a bag with some water from his old tank and popped him in the big tank to change temps, i expected my angels to immediately go up and investigate (like they do with all newbies) but they didnt :S they were uninterested, okay so after 15mins i popped in the usual water and left him again, i watched for half an hour and no fish (except mr. male dwarf guorami) took any notice of him or his bag. DUN, DUN, DUUUUNNN the big moment, 30 mins later it was time to let him go, he swam around and explored, made freinds with the paradise fish but no aggression towards him, i watched the angels swim straight past him, same with the kribs, amazing, no agression at all  if i see any signs of bullying he will be straight back to his 10gal and il have to find him some platies for tankmates :)

shocking, didn't know angels and bettas were compatible B)

Good good, it's the gouramis you wan't to be careful of, my mates gouramis ripped off his fighters fins :S

My angels ignored my betta but for some reason bettas and kribs just dont get on so watch that combo carefully.

will do, the tank is ready for him to move back so fingers crossed

i could always move the kribs though :)

:-(

nope, it didnt work, you were right black angel, the kribs decided his tail fin looked tasty and shredded the ends of it :-(

had to put him back on his own

will find him some platies soon :look:

because in the shop he was in a tank of platies, he's depressed because he hasnt got any friends :X

Somehow I doubt that's the reason -_-

It's that kind of thinking that gets bettas paired with unsuitable tankmates time and time again. Bettas are not people. They do not need, and usually do not want, friends. It's possible he's bored, but a snail, ADF, or even just a new plant should be entertainment enough.

You could have the same problem with the platys and the betta as you did with the kribs, or vice versa- male bettas are solitary fish by nature and are happiest in an interestingly decorated/planted tank to swim about in on their own  .
