if it wasn't for forums would you of gone to the libary and read books, I think forum's are better for learning about fish, and also you get to talk to alot of nice members.

I read the books, I visited the forums. Forums are great to learn about fish.

The difference between these forums (and ones like them) is that it's 2-way communication; you can ask people who've experienced things first-hand very specific questions. Most books you'd find in a public library have to be much more generalized than you can be on a forum. Books are always a great place to start, but more specific questions can't always be addressed.

Also, nothing personal, but when I see this I cringe;"Would you OF...". It should read "Would you HAVE...". Again, nothing personal, I just can't stand seeing that typed.

 It's been along time since I left school.

Books are a great source of knowledge, forums are often just peoples opinions, 90% of what i know comes from books or personal experience.

I'd say 70%

Because a lot of it come from experiences they have had during fish keeping.

I never Would have Kept Bettas If it was not for this forum and Learnt about the Squillions Of Color Variations Of Bettas.

And Would Never have Leant so Much about Fish without the TFF.

I always Send Noobs Here.

I've read lots of books but my main source of information is various sites on the internet (besides forums) wich contain a mixture of personal experiences, opinions and fact. Forums are great if you have specific questions but, as CFC said, most of what you get is opinion and often times I'm looking for more general stuff - not having a particular question in mind. Plus the internet (and books) are great for finding lots and lots of views on a subject and then asking about it on a forum to come to a more deffinite conclusion based on other peoples' experiences.

I started keeping fish 1 year ago. I learned a large amount of information about the hobby in a very short time mainly from 3 areas:

Google searches leading to other websites: 60%
TFF: 30%
Books: 10%

There is a ton of information available on the internet. You just have to be pretty good at weeding through the junk for it. I have at least 40 aquarium and fish related bookmarks and have lost at least that many other worthwhile web pages.

But everyone needs a community and TFF is my community of choice.

Books are fine for starting off, especially if you get a well written one. However, no book is going to be able to answer every question you've got.

this forum and google is where i get 90% of my info from, its just so much easier to type it in than search for books
