I bought a plastic 3 gallon tank today, and only realised when I unpacked it that it comes with an internal filter (it said on the box it came with a water pump, which I assumed to be an air pump which I wouldn't have used).
The tank only cost £15 so this filter is super cheap, and it looks it. It does have an adjustable flow though. I'm just wondering what the disadvantages of using a very cheap filter would be. The obvious one would be that it isn't very powerful, but that doesn't matter so much for a betta. It may break, but that doesn't matter much really either. I'll just chuck it away if it does and have an unfiltered tank (as I was planning before). Are there any disadvantages I'm not thinking of? It's got a CE mark on it so presumably it's safe, or am I just being optimistic?
I googled the code on the side of the filter and came up with a Chinese company called Shenzhen Layal Aquarium Co., Ltd
This is it http

It looks like it may be a cheap copy of an Aqua One filter to me.
Anyway, would you trust it?
