I'm fish in cycling a 36 gallon tank. It's been about two weeks and still haven't seen any nitrites show up yet.

I've read about using filter media from established tanks in new tanks to get the cycle going. I have a 10 gallon tank with a betta in it that's about 3 months old. If I slipped the filter bag from there into the filter for the new tank would that help?

Yes, but what filters are you using? The filter should at least be one cartridge size up from the 10 if its in a 36.

I'm cycling a 36 gallon tank. And I pulled the cartridge (Bio bag) out of my 10 gallon tank and just slipped it into the filter on my 36 gallon tank. Is this too small? It can't hurt to try right? There's gotta be at least some bacteria on there and I tried some bacteria in a bottle a few days ago.

Oh and the filter in my 36 gallon is a Aqueon Power 30.

Can you set both filters up in the 10? Thats what i would do and just let it run for awhile.

So set up the filter from the new 36 gallon tank in 10 gallon tank? How do I know when it's okay to put it back in the new tank? And then once I put it back will the new tank be pretty much cycled?

I would just leave it in your other tank for awhile. Im not completely sure but when i set up my new tank i did it all in three days. If you are planning on not using your 10 i would just jump both filters over to the other tank and you would be good. Or at least in my experience :)

Still not so clear on this.

I would set up the filter from the 36 gallon uncycled tank for a few days in the cycled 10 gallon tank and then bring it back over to the 36 tank? And I would be good?

How would I be able to tell the 36 gallon tank is all cycled?

Cycling is for your filter, leave the filter in your other tank for like a week and a half. Take it out and put it in the other tank. If you are getting rid of the smaller tank then you can put both filters in the other.

Nope, a few days wouldnt be time for it to cycle. Take some of the filter media from the cycled filter and put it in the uncycled filter, thats what I always do with no problems.
