I have a small 21l hex tank at the moment, after 4 months of having it I have decided that I do not like the hex shape. I have bought an Elite 35 yesterday. My thoughts are that instead of having 3 tanks running in my room at once as I also have a 90l tank, I could put the Elite filter into my hex tank and run it in there for a week or so as this should build up the bacteria quicker than it going straight into a new tank. Then after running it in the old tank for a week take half the water out my old tank and put it into my new one and I also plan to take my bio balls out my old tank and place them into my new one and then also put the filter into the new tank then too.

Would this speed up cycling precess since the filter will be in the old tank for a week and then I plan to take things out the old tank and place them in the new tank???? Thanks

so 3 tanks in total currently? Okay... the easiest way IMO would be to shut down the smallest tank, and place those fish into one of the larger tanks. After that's done, transfer the filter from the smallest tank, along with the Elite 35 to the 90L tank, let your tank reach optimal temperature for a couple days. Now, transfer the fish you want in it from the smaller tanks to the 90L tank, it's already cycled because of the matured filter media. Once that's done, put your other filters from your smaller tanks onto the 90L tank, and you can shut down the other tanks, leave the mature filters running for atleast 3 weeks, then after the 3 weeks you should be safe to remove the filters as the Elite should have enough bacteria to run the bioload of that tank.

Thanks for the reply the only thing is that i dont really want to shut down any of my tanks because the smallest tank (21l one) is going to a fiance so dont want to shut that down then they have to start all over again. The one fish going into my new Elite is the same fish that are in the 21l at the moment. And my 90l isn't actually ready yet it is still cycling so dont want to put fish in tht. Should have mabey said all this in the first post. Sorry. xxxx

Forgot to say also, I cannot remove the filiter from the smallest (21l tank) as it is all built into the hood. Thats why I thought it would be best to run the elite filter in this tank.
