Okay so I have been looking for a cheap source of lighting and wondered about using incandesents. How much of the wattage is actually light energy?I imagine a lot of the energy is heat energy. I have tried energy savers but they are almost as expensive as T5s.

Like this. I presume it is no good but it is worth a shot. Any thoughts?

light bulb

Why would you want to use a blue bulb?

You can grow plants with them, but the problem is they give off to much heat.

Have you thought about using the fluorescent bulbs, I've seen quite a few people use them.

It is a daylight bulb meant for giving the right light for complicated things like needle work. Energy savers are really expensive in the right colours.

Okay done a bit more research and they actually sound alright. I think I am going to order a couple and see what happens. I have a metal hood at the minute so the most they can do is make the paint peel. I already have the fittings so it will only cost me about £3 for 200w of light and they give off 6500K.

They simulate daylight and are 300 lumens. Can anyone see any other problems? Is there something I am missing?

They do not give off blue light so don't be fooled by thier colour.

be careful the bulbs can litraly blow up, when the light is off at night the condensation covers the bulb, then BANG!!!!l i've had first hand esperance, had to empty the tank to get all the bits of glass out.

That isn't a problem I have got a condensation tray on and have never had a single bit of moisture in my lid and if it did the plate should catch all the glass. Will be carefull to make sure that there is none before I switch it on though. Thanks for the tip that really wouldn't be good.
