I have a 55 Gallon setup, H=22" (from base to water level),D=18", L=30". Gravel substrate. I got the setup at Petsmart and it still has the light that it came with, and I know that I can't grow plants with it, but I was wondering if it is enough light for the fish. The light is rated 20w. My tank does get a lot of natural direct sunlight at the moment. I'm sure this will change things quite a bit.

Fish In Tank:

5 Black Mollies
2 Dalmatian Mollies
3 Silver Mollies
1 Orange Molly
6 Black Kuhli Loach
1 Kori Catfish
1 Highfin Pleco
1 Pictus Catfish

I'm looking to add some plants, but I don't know what would work best. I had two in there before, but the got ate. I have more room up then I do on the floor, since my tank is more vertical and most of the floor is taken up by decoration, unless I can plant something on that as well, I would be okay with that. I'm open to pretty much anything, so any advice would be great. :) Oh, and how many fish is to many?

I was also wondering how I know if my pleco is getting enough food. There is basiclly no algae and my pleco is getting pretty big pretty quick, but I know they do that anyways. I've had him about 5 months and he is about 4-5 inches.

If the plants got big enough to stick out of the water, could that be a suitable dry area if I wanted to have crabs. Thank You :)

crabs normally nip fins i think. so i wouldn't put them with fish

fish dont need light. only for you to view them. your at 0.4wpg this is really low light, you might get away with trying to grow java fern and anubias, maybe java moss, and crypts.

how many fish is to many... that depends on the fish, on the tank and on the filter

you can allways feed your plec cucumber (put it in for afew hours then take it out again)
