Hello all.

At the moment I have a Juwel Rio 125

Living in my tank I have a pair of Betta and Dwarf Gaurami's. 3 male guppies, 1 platty and a plec.

I would like to have crabs or shrimp. If this is possible how would i make my tank suitible for the little guys.

Any hints on how to improve my tank welcome.

Thankyou

Simmo

Maybe a blue lobster?? Or are they to aggressive???

Not good stocking you say a pair do you mean male betta as can't keep them together, they will nip or kill the guppys, also gouramis might nip the betta fins.

I have a male and female of both the Betta's and Dwarfs

Also can you identfy my Plec. How big will he get?

Thankyou

Simmo

You will have to put the male betta in his own tank, shouldn't keep them with females or guppys as he will fight and even kill them.
You will have to describe the plec, or load a pic up of it.

Amano shrimps would be suitable for this tank. Add a nice group of 6 or 7 and you will get a lot of entertainment.

I do however agree with Wilder that your betta/gourami situation needs sorting out. I would find the male betta his own little home asap, or you could wake up one morning to a dead betta and/or dead gouramis. Not only do male and female bettas not go together (except during short bursts of sexual excitement), but bettas and gouramis don't tend to mix either. This is because they are both labyrinth fish and the instinct of labyrinth fish is to maintain a territory which they guard aggressively. Any rival - i.e. another betta or related fish such as a dwarf gourami- which enters this territory needs to be seen off. In the wild they might be able to save themselves by swimming away, but in an aquarium there is nowhere to go, so they have to fight to the death. Even a female of the same species will be attacked if she is not displaying mating behaviour. In the wild, a female would only ever go near the male if she was ready for mating, so a female stuck in a fish tank is giving the male very confusing signals.
