I'm thinking of trying to spawn my blue mustard HM plakat male with my green CT female at the beginning of September. Before I do this, I want to know if anyone might be interested in some of the fry in a few months? No official "reservations" or anything, I just want an idea of how many people might be interested. Remember, it's likely on the F1 of this cross you will get all long-tails, probably with a lot of combtail veils (unless your crownie is also a plakat). It's not until the F2 that you'll actually get plakats.

With that pairing you'll probably get about half coppers and half God-knows-what, lol. It would be interesting to see what came out of it, though. Like cation said, you stand the chance of getting veiltails, but only if the plakat parent is actually plakat veil.... see, the plakat trait is separate from other tail type traits, so you can have delta plakats, veil plakats, CT plakats, DT plakats... you catch my drift. I have no idea which the father of my spawn is (or for that matter what the mother is, though since I'm assuming she's from good lines, coming from Wuv, she's probably delta,) but I'll be finding out since I'm planning to cross one of the fry with a copper CT in the future

haha the half "god-knows-what" part sounds like fun to me!

my plakat parent that i have in mind for the first spawn is an HM plakat, so i shouldn't get any veils if i cross him with a CT female, right?

if/when you find out more about your spawn's parents, please let me know, as i'd like to have that info for when i decide to spawn them

Well, it's impossible for me to find out more about the father since he's from my LFS, but the mother is Mini from Wuv. Wuv says her mother was an orange DT plakat, if I remember correctly, and the father was a red (DT or DT geno? I don't remember) plakat. Wuv would be the one to ask on that one.

If the plakat is HM then no, I don't think you should get any veils, but you'll get combtails with weird finnage probably

Edit: Little Agares is also from Wuv and is the result of a CT x plakat spawn. As you can see, his fins are kinda strange, but I definitely wouldn't call him a veil tail. I think his fins are very beautiful, actually, and believe he could potentially throw CT offspring with the "balloon" trait because he does have a lot of excess webbing between his rays.

Have you ever kept a betta before? You can keep these bettas the same as you keep other bettas. For more info on caring for bettas, check out the pinned section in the betta forum. As far as cost, they'll probably be free.

Looks like the "veils" I got from my first spawn. As I mentioned on the other thread, not like the veils in the chain stores, but the way the rays curve coming from the base of the caudal is a veiltail trait. What do I know, though? Maybe I'm just interpreting it incorrectly, but that's the implication I got from Sonnier's email. However, I have seen some spawns that make me question this (like yeevia's).

Of course, yeevia's veil was a female, and my "veil-like" fish would have gotten that trait from their father....wonder if some of this ends up being sex-linked....
