Hi All,

In my community tank I have alot of tropical fish however I have beta pellets.

I feed my tank a selection of live food and flake food. I dont think the betta eats the flake food and dont expect him to by some reviews i've read.

However I want to know it this is sufficient for my betta.

If he doesnt eat the flakes then he is eatting every other day.....can this sustain the betta as i have heard reviews that they can go a week without food and still live...Surely if that is true the once every other day would be fine...right?

Cheers,

Reesy :good:

Hi
feeding once every other day is fine, you will find a lot of fishkeepers do this

I feed my fish once a day on flake, this is supplemented with frozen food 2-3 times a week. However I sometimes leave my fish without food for a few days with no ill effects.

I feed my betta twice a day - a tiny amount of betta flake in the morning, and around 4 betta pellets at night. I know I could feed all this at once, but I love it when my bettas come to the front of the tank to be fed! They are so cute doing their little fishy dance. So personally I like to feed this way. When I go away for a weekend though, the bettas get a large feed before I go and then nothing till I get back.

Umm tibby, that is way too much. Bettas get Swim-bladder disorder from being fed to much to frequently, this is most often fatal. You need to drop it down to ONE feeding of only 3 pellets, and nothing else. Feeding only a couple times a week is better.

I'd go Monday-Wednesday-Friday, then brake on the weekend, (as in no feeding.)

The biggest killer of bettas is over feeding by well meaning owners.

sorry but i disagree, both i and most of the other keepers here feed more than that daily with no ill effects, if fed the correct food then there should be no problem

I feed all 7 of my bettas with one feeding of 3-4 pellets in the morning and one feeding of 3-4 pellets in the evening. Once a week, I treat them with one feeding of frozen bloodworms instead of pellets. Also, once a week, I give each betta a bite or two of a pea to help with their digestion.

My bettas are just fine and not overfed, I am very careful about how much they eat - after accidently dropping waaay too much bloodworm into one tank, the betta in question ate it ALL before i could get it out again and was very bloated an uncomfortable for days! o i make sure not to overfeed them as I know they do not know when to stop! Thanks for the concern, Vaporean, but I know my fish well and I feed them the amount that keeps them a healthy shape and size. :)

Utter tosh......all of ours get fed twice a day with 3-4 pellets each feeding and we're feeding over 100 Bettas and they are all fit and healthy and have no problems at all.

It is a proven fact ladies and gentleman. Betta's stomachs are about the size of their eye, they are not designed for eating that much so often. Though if you wish to keep slowly killing your fish, go right ahead.

Sorry for nabbing your thread Reesy.
