we have

6 swordtails - 2 male 4 female
4 guppys - 1 male 3 female
6 neon tetra
2 dwarf gourami's - both male

our neons dont seem to go for the guppys , and the guppys are fine with the swordtails and gouramis.

we would love a male betta , and did have one that died :( but dont want to get one that wont fit in with the tank as i feel it would be unfair and cruel if he got bullied

you might have a problem with the guppies and betta together.

Hm.. :shifty:

He might be okay with the swords.

There's a chance he might kill the guppies.

The neons would probably nip at his fins.

I don't think he'd get along with the gouramies.

How big is this tank anyway?

Mm.. I'd suggest just getting a whole new tank for the betta. It's fun to set-up and a betta's well worth the trouble. :hey:

Why dont you buy a small 5 gallon tank. You can pick them up now with heaters and pumps, substrate and a plastic plant for about £15 if you shop about. It will be better for him and for the guppies :D

thanks for the advice everyone :) will start looking around for a 5 gallon , will that be big enough for him?

although i have been eyeing up a lovely juwel hexagonal tank , may look into that , thankyou so so much :)

IME i would never but a betta in with a Gourami again. I was advised by my LFS that he would be fine in with them, he lasted 2 hours !
