heya. Im setting up a tank and i want to keep only one species of fish in the tank. I kept a community tank before and i got annoyed as the aquarium (supposedly a good one) gave me bad advice about compatible fish and stupidly being young i trusted them! so may were incompatible.
So anyway, i really wanted to keep a type of shark, maybe the Bala type, but im really not sure as they get wuite large right?
I would love some type of hardy, shoaling fish, my tanks about 60ltrs i think-not sure how many gallons that is!
So could anyone reccomend a good and interesting starter fish that wont die!
I also LOVE siamese fighting fish coz ii got very attached to one i used to keep called Charlie. Im aware of the problem of keeping males together, but would sveral females work? or be appropriate??PLEASE GIVE ME ADVICE!

Firstly... :hi: to the forums!!!

Now, i don't think you can get bala sharks, the tank is too small. Why dont you try dwarf puffers? They are not shoaling, but they are quite fun from what i hear :D

Or you might try a school of Cardinal Tetras, if you get enough, the effect is stunning! Yes, female bettas may work out.

Heya :)

60 litres is around 17 gallons, I think.

I go on about these fish all the time so people are probably getting sick of it  but if you're looking for a hardy starter fish, black phantom tetras are nice. They're hard as nails and are always out and about, chasing each other in and out of plants.

Or you could make it a cory tank  You'd mostly just have activity on the bottom level of the tank if you did that, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Up to you. :)

Hey thanks guys!
Btw wot is a cory tank???
Lxxx :)

So iv read somewhere that cardinals are not good for a new tank, gotta b 2-3 months old, i really do fancy keeping sum bettas coz they are rather gorgeous and great characters! yes i am sad!
Now can betta live with tetras?? for example one male or 2 female betas?
(btw i know wot a cory is now!)
ta Lx

I dunno about that -_-

I think it's possible that the tetras will go for the bettas fins

The tetras are faster than the betta cos they aren't weighed down by loads of long droopy finnage

But then it depends on the tetras...and teh betta

Yes, it does depend on what tetra. My glowlights and cardinals do fine with the betta, and same the other way around.
