Ok i just got this email from a good freind of mine after i emailed her the address to this forum when i heard she was setting up a tank. It looks like a disaster to me and the advice from the pet shop is beyond me, its not her fault, people in the shops should be there to help people make the right choices as they are meant to be the experts.
ok so what do you think the story for the next few weeks will be? I know what I predicted to her, death, death, followed by more death...
Shame I didn’t read your email earlier really, you and I are so different I was FAR too impatient to wait anything like the time you did! Basically we set up the tank Sunday, and put NINE fish in on Thursday! I know that sounds like a lot, but the guy in the shop said bung in around 6 to 9 small ones that you don’t mind losing to get it going so I was happy with that! So far we’ve had two fatalities, one guppy died as soon as he went into the tank, I think the stress got him (and yes I did leave him in the bag for half an hour first!), and one Thai red crab which is inexplicable! he did climb onto the top of the filter then fall in the other day and we had to take the whole thing apart to get him out, so maybe he never really recovered from that!
The others seem very happy, they’re very mobile I sit and stare at them for what must be an hour a day, it looks like they’re loving it!
Now we have two yellow guppies, three tetras, three rainbow zebra danios (which are almost too energetic to be honest), two which I can’t remember the name of but they are medium sized and change colour depending on who is the dominant one of the day- they’re yellow with blue/purple spots and the dominant one develops thick black stripes and has a black Mohican which stands up on end. When they argue they both go like that, they’re so cool- one pitbull plec, two khuli loaches which have evolved into eel shapes, and one remaining thai red crab.
Ours is 85 litres, and by Juwel
