I have a ten gallon with java moss and monda grass. It's stocked with two female guppies and one female betta.

The problem is, my tank has been a little hot lately ~ 78-79 F. I cant leave the light on long because the heat will go up (BTW i have no heater). I think that my mondo grass is dying because of this, what should I do?

yep you can buy mondo grass from the nursery. There are black and green forms and it does well as a pot plant but not underwater.

wow, but i got it in the LFS and it was under water before i bought it. what should i do with it?

Put it in a put in some soil on the window sill. LFS often sell non-aquatic plants, its the bane of my life sometimes.

LOL
my sentiments exactly.

A good way to tell if a plant is a true aquatic is to lift it out of water. If the plant falls over and is unable to support its own weight out of water, then it is probably a true aquatic. If the plant continues to stand upright when removed from the water then it is most likely a marsh plant.
There are a few exceptions to this rule in particular Swordplants and the Hygrophillas. Many of these are marsh plants but they also do very well under water.
