Hi, im quite new to this forum but so far it has been really enjoyable to read and im learning lots!

I do have one problem though which im a bit worried about. I have a female Mollie who has been acting quite strangely recently. She has been hiding in the plants, sitting very still in them and sometimes looks liek shes stuck, when she is approached by another fish though she swims off with ease. Very quickly in fact! She has been spending alot of time on her own staying very still at the sides just hovering.

Im not quite sure what this means but then i noticed something today. This may sound odd but around her rear end seems to be more open and pink, there almost looks like something is protruding slighty but this may just have been from the angle I have seen her swiimming at, it does seem more prominant than usual though and it wasnt as pink and open as before. Could she be pregant perhaps?

I believe something similiar to this happened to another forum member in the past. If my memory is correct he/she had a pregnant platy and it had a prolapsed uterus. (Sorry if the spelling is off)

Here is the link to that similiar problem I mentioned. http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?s=&amp...t&p=1477497

I had a look at this post but it doesnt look the same, it isnt protruding to that extent, its more of a tiny blip, about 2mm that wasnt there before, its possibly more the fact that the opening is wider so its making the edge of it stick out more, iif that makes sense, i'll try to take a pic to show you.

Post a pic and would you please post your water parameters?

I dont have anything to test the water parameters with but i will get a photo for you.

If you don't know your water parameters, have you done a water change recently? You should be doing water changes regularly. Mollies are quite susceptible to a variety of illnesses when not kept in very clean water or brackish water. A picture would help us out. When Mollies are lie on the bottom, it's a sign of illness sometimes, that is if it is not a sign of birthing. In my experience, Mollies rarely get better if they become inactive.

Shes not lying on the bottom, shes just hovering about in the tank. The water is perfectly clean, yes i do clean it regularly. I will try and get a photo although the pinkish area is so small its not coming up on film very well, i'll try though.

Here you can see the hole where it dips in and then out, i hope im not sounding daft here but im sure it wasnt prominant like this before.

You can kind of see the pinkish area here

Strange raw pink circle inside the hole can be seen here

Sorry about the quality of the photos, i couldnt zoom in well, hope this help.

It looks like a prolapsed uterus, but less so than the other example. I would take her out of the breeder as it will add more stress. She looks rather large. It's hard to tell from the pictures. Is she a Balloon Molly or pregnant? I guess since she is in a breeder in the pictures, she is pregnant. For something like that, unfortunately there's not much you can do but to ease the fish's stress and hope it corrects itself.

I put her in the breeder when i noticed the pink spot yesterday, i thought perhaps she was pregnant and was about to give birth so i moved her in. I'll take her out though if its goign to add more stress. She's a balloon molly so im finding it difficult to work out if she is pregnant or not. Quite scary, poor wee thing.

Ive put her back into the main tank now and as soon as shes gone back in she swims into the thick of plants and just sits there, this is what she was doing before as well.

UPDATE!!

i have just sat and watched her, she is sitting very still in the plants and the dark pink thing in the hole at the back keeps popping out and then going back in, and then out and then in, its constant, its not at particular intervals but its goes back ina dnthen pokes out :S

HELP :(

Maybe she is in labor and trying to give birth. If she is pregnant and that is a prolapsed uterus, that would make sense. Unfortunately, there is not much you can do for her right now. Just make sure she has clean water at a good temperature.

I will do, thankyou very much for your help!

How's your girl doing? Any changes or fry yet? I've also got a little gal who's gotten a lot fatter in the past month or so and can't tell if she really is pregnant or is a balloon molly fry that matured (born here in our tank earlier).. I think she always has that square look about her anyway!

My prayers and thoughts are with you.

Thanku so much :) Shes still hidding in the plants away from everyone else, no sign of fry yet but like you say, im not quite sure if she is pregant or is just being the tubby balloon molly girl she is! The pink area at the back doesnt seem to be there anymore as far as I could see, i'll keep checking though! Fingers crossed she'll be ok!
