Today I visited my LPS b/c I had some questions about my fish, and wanted to see some other tiger barbs to make sure everything was OK with mine (they are fine, just me being paranoid). But anyways, while I was waiting, the employee was talking about cycling a fish tank with fish or some chemical that I have never herad of here, so I jumped in with fishless cycling. After I explained it, the employee (i think assistant manager) offered me a job. This LPS is kinda sketchy in their fish department especially, I usually go about 45 minutes away to buy fish, if that tells you anything.

I know there are people here who work for chain LPS, what are your experiences when you know what goes on with the fish? How do you handle it, just knowing you are atleast helping SOME people???

Input?

go for it,

i work in a LFS rather than LPS. you might have arse hole customers to deal with but the job is quite rewarding and you get the hobby at reduced price, so even if your on crap wages like me it works out!

I'd take it for now. If you don't already have a better job that is :) I was planning on getting a job at Pets At Home when I'm 16, mainly just to get someone who actually knows something in there :p Buuut.... my dads friends, who owns a pet shop, basicly offered me a job for when I'm older the other day! Nyehehehehe :sly:

i think the key thing to notice here is that when you mentioned fishless cycling, not only did they listen, they also thought it sounded like a good plan! to me, that indicates both a willingness to try new ideas and a willingness to try and do what's best for the fish. that's the kind of environment where real improvements can be made; who knows, you might be just the guy to really turn that place around!

You should take the job!

I worked at a fish store when I was 15, and we keep not only the fish in the best conditions, all the animals were very well taken care of... Sad thing is that I just visited the store a few weeks ago and all the animals cages were filthy, and I bought 2 small mollies and it turned out they had ich!! I was so mad, the fish store used to be run so well and it just went down hill with quality and maintence of the fish

You could really make a difference in the store! :)
