Hi,

I want to make an aquarium about 7feet high 12feet long and 2feet wide. I feel that 12mm thick glass sealed with silicon would do. But I am not too sure about it.

Is there a way to work out the suitable glass thickness w.r.t. dimensions and outward water pressure.

Thanks

MA

Hi, and welcome to the board!

To be honest, I think you might do better asking this question in the Hardware and DIY section as its more their cup of tea so to speak :)

Good luck with the build though! Sounds massive!!

oops!

Thanks, for your good wishes and guidance, I didn't see where I was poting.

Well, for hobbyst it does but considering large marine aquariums it is a baby. Besides, if it does not work out the way i feel it should, the other option I have not fill up to the top and use that space for garden plants, artificial plant/water fall, etc.

That's my idea.

7 feet high ??? 12 mm glass ... you got no chance ....

thickness of the glass is dependant on the height only ...

you need some real serious glass to have a tank 7 feet high .... the pressure at the bottom of that would be incredible ...

Just working out the volume (without allowing for glass thickness) that works out as being more than 1000 Imp. Gallons....

I dread to think of the floor weight of the tank... just the water is over 10,000 pounds in weight

I agree, that's incredible. Why not just put glass in the doorway and fill up the living room :hyper:
