This is my rekord 96 tank, the set up is four months old but i have had problems ordering a new lid and light which is why i have not put plants in yet, i have now sorted this and a new lid arrives a few days :good: ,so now i can finally go crazy with the plants (all real), i am going to put a blue background on and am thinking of changing the gravel to a mix of that eco-stuff and sand, any advice on which plants to put in or any other idea's or comments would be great.

I will try to post more, better quality pics as i go on, as i say it really is work in progress and will get better (i hope)

Should look good. Add a black back ground though, it will make the plants stand out better.

loving the comments, keep them coming folks, 'black background', you have just said what my other half has been telling me to get, might well be better than blue, i'll check it out.

get rid of my shark, i mean my kids shark, why do i need to do that? Do you know something about them i don't. did you have probs with one?

Just checked out some other members tanks and my tank and photography is way behind, i must improve

Because the Shark can get to 13inches long. Wasn't that told to you when you bought it?

If you want a cheap black background you can do what I do and use a black bin back taped to the back of the tank.

It looks surprisingly good! You can see it in the link to my Big tank in my sig.

I know they grow big, but for some reason i thought that it would'nt in this size tank, it has grown quickly since i brought it, i must admit. The Kids will be gutted for at least a day if i get rid

i might take it back...will have a think about it.

Unfortunatly fish don't grow to the size of their tank. Their growth might be stunted (which obviously isn't a good thing) and so the fish may not reach its full size potential, but they will still grow large. I would trade it in with a fish that stays a suitable size for your tank - I'm sure you can find something else you kids will love.
I agree - a black background would look stunning too - I love the piece of wood you have in there with the moss on it! :good:

The bala shark is also a schooling species and will be unhappy in a tank without others of it's own kind, at least three, preferably six. It also will get huge and nerotic if kept in crampt conditions.

thanks for the feedback, its funny but when i first posted this i was only really thinking about the decor, now i realise i have made mistakes with my fish selection, i will be following most of this advice and the next pic i post (which will be better quality) might well have a black background and be missing a fish and my new lid and light :hyper:

i now also think sand is the way ahead, well a mix of sand and something good for my future plants.

Sorry for the fish selection....Good luck though!!

Doing your research is probably the single most important thing in fishkeeping - its worth spending an hour or so checking out any new additions to your tank, as alot of fish just aren't suitable (and your LFS can never be relied upon to stop you making mistakes.)

Before you add anything else, stick a quick post up on here in tropical discussion and someone will give you some advice. Or better still, check out the species index and read up on them yourself.

The Shark is now gone as well as a couple of golden barbs, a rainbow fish and two mollys, i took them back to the shop (did not even give my a credit note for them, tight gits), that leaves me with 10 neons, 5 silver tip tetras and two Harlyquins (more to come)...the gravel has also been changed today, i went for a complete substrate base with a layer of sand on top (tesco play sand) and rearranged the wood and took out a few rocks, the tank looks alot better now, even if i do say so myself

I will post a new pic after the weekend, as i am going to silverstone later for the F1....vroommmm.... :hyper:
