hey,
ive just brought a piece of wood from my local fish shop and i was wonder how i get it to sink so it will sit at the bottom
of the tank because it floats.
Ive never had wood in my tank before so im really unsure
any advice would be great :)

boil it in water for 2 hours, then let it soak in a bucket of dechlorinated water for up to 3 weeks, the purpose of that is so that the tannins it releases ( tannins are things that change the color of the water ) dont end up in your tank.

to get it to sink you just need it to get water logged and it will sink ;)

The wood has lots of tiny airbubbles trapped in it, either leave it floating in your tank and after a while it will sink, and if it turns your watter yellow don`t worry about it to much it will hapen and eventually disipate

Or, going with the instant gratification route . . . you could screw it to a piece of slate so that the weight of the rock holds it down (and you can bury the slate under your gravel so you can't see it). This approach will get you sunken wood right away, but you'll still have to worry about tannins leaching out of it and turning your water brown.

Boiling it is probably a good idea whether you weight it or wait for it (to sink on its own).

hi every one how long does it take for the wood to sink?

As i`m sure you know wood comes in many varietys, some denser than others, the less dence the wood the more little pockets of air it will contain.
as well as many diffrent variables in the trees life that can affect it so no one can predict how long it will take your wood to sink
