Wood

Does anyone know what type of wood this is and if it can be used in my planted tank...I found it up on my hill behind my house. I was going to soak it for a few weeks then boil it. Thanks!

I have to admit, as a woodworker, I can't tell. It looks like the roots of a rose bush I removed from my garden years ago. In the same way it looks like a lump of any indistinguishable timber.
Most wood will break down in water for any period of time. I would sugest not using it in favour of the wood you can buy from the petshop which is without question suitable for the tank already
