wood question

I have a small piece of wood (grapevine if I remeber correctly) that I got at the LFS. I am wondering 2 things. 1, this is safe for my fish right? And 2, how the heck do I get it to sink, how long will it take? I am not overly trusting of this store because I had to explain to the guy how to tell apart the male and female swordtails...

You need to soak all wood for a few days to let tanin come out (so your tank will not look like tea!).

The wood will take in water and become water logged which is when it will sonk, I never thought my bogwood would sink!

Some people weigh the wood down until is is waterlooged enough to stay be itself. I didn't.
