Wood Problems

It's just a fungus that feeds on nutrients leaching from the wood. One the nutrients have been used up, it'll go away on it's own.

It isn't harmful to fish, although I know it looks unslightly.

For the record; don't boil wood; it cooks the fibres and makes it release even more tannins/nutrients in the long term, as well as causing it to rot faster.

Is this ok? This is what my wood looks like, and it looks horrible, is it worth trying to vac some off? It's worrying me

Please put my mind at rest, I've just put 2 female paradise fish and 6 black phantom tetra in. I don't want to compromise them this early

It looks like normal fungus feeding on leaching nutrients.

Does beg the question if you were worried enough to post this why did you go ahead and add the fish before knowing the answer?

Judging by what I was told earlier in the thread, was just looking for clarification. I've never had real wood in an aquarium before.

Maybe just been too eager to start to re stock....

To me, setting up the tank, buying plants, scaping and looking at, deciding on fish and buying and introducing them is the best bit.
