Wood In Tank

I am just setting up my RIO 400 and have been looking at big pieces of bogwood. They piece I have found is around about £95 (4 foot long and about 17" high). It seems a little steep to me and i am just wondering if anyone has any cheaper ideas.

Basically what i am asking is there any types of wood i can put into the tank that will not rot away or damage the tank and are free that can be found in local forests etc.

beech oak and silver birch. i have heard that all of them are ok in fish tanks. as long as you dry them out first
