Wood.. Branches N That

Hello fishpeople!

I've just returned from the office and nipped into a pet store a brought home a big lump of wood! It was being sold as a reptile branch and I was hoping someone could let me know if it can be used in my aquarium?

and they say "Java Reptile Branch - Medium. Made from the branches of the coffee tree, they are sanded down and baked to make them extremely durable. Excellent for your reptiles to bask on, in the heat. Suitable for larger lizards, snakes etc."

any kind of prep needed do you think?

well.. allow me to answer this myself incase someone else considers buying this for their fish tank.........


it floats

I now have an attractive looking branch floating in my tank being held down by various rocks. oh dear.

Thats crap matey but this post was quite funny.

You might eventually get the wood to sink as it soaks up water.

cheers free runner. got home and saw that my water has gone completely cloudy. My fish really haven't got a clue whats goin on anymore! I've removed the offending branch and stuck it in a bucket to soak for.. a while!

[edit] found out some info online. someone else has tried it, the wood went mouldy and crumbled after a long while. such a shame, its a really nice looking bit of wood.

ANY other wood/branches I can use? maybe from the local river or park for free??
