Woo Hoo, My First Fry (i've Saved From Being Eaten)

here is my single fry i have found and saved from being eaten by the others,

i have a few questions, how old, if you can tell, is the little cutie?

will it be ok just eating crushed flakes?

and.. how big before it can be released back into the main tank? there is nothing big, all platy size (cherry barbs and serpae tetra and golden loach)

is there anything else i need to do so it will survive?

it looks about 1 week maybe a little older should be fine on crushed flake and i would say at least an inch long before returning 2 main tank but been along time since keeping live bearers so i may be wrong lol

I found some platie fry in me external filter fished them out after 10 min of playing put them back in the tank 5 swum off 6th swum strait into me killies mouth

Its a week or 2 old imho crushed flake and a bit luck your be ok once it grows bigger than the barbs mouth

I return mine to the main tank once they are big enough to not fit easily into the mouths of the other fish. With Platies this can take anywhere from 3-6 weeks.

what you have done is exactly what i did with my platy fry (just the 1 for me to). i put mine back in to the tank until it was a month old just to be on the safe side. i feed mine on growth flake at about two weeks old but gave it frozen brine shrimp until then.

a week! woah how did it survive!
thanks for your help, the other platy is looking big, fat and dark so hopefully will get her in the breeding trap soon (will she eat the fry thats in there at the moment?)

I wouldn't put the other soon to be mum in with the baby she will try to eat it. You might find that baby is only just a day or two old, its really hard to tell unless you actually catch the mother giving birth.

You could put the fry into a Tupperware container or some thing until the other female is finished birthing.
