1. Water parameters. (ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, PH, temp', Hardness etc)

Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 20, pH 6.8, 80f, GH 6d, KH 3d

2. A full description of the fishes symptoms.

As per post title - majority of fish flashing/flicking against plants and tank decor

3. How often you do water changes and how much.

Weekly 25%

4. Any chemicals and treatments you add to the water.

Nothing except Tetra AquaSafe dechlorinator

5. What tank mates are in the tank.

Tiger Barbs (affected)
Platys (affected)
Peppered Corys (affected)
Zebra Loaches (affected)
BN Plecos (1 of 2 affected)
Dwarf Gouramis (not affected)

6. Tank size.

40" - approx 180 litres

7. Finally Have you recently added any new fish?

Dwarf Gouramis were latest addition - added over a fortnight ago.

Apart from the flashing, there are no visible signs of illness - not lethargy, skin complaints, whitespot etc.
Only other 'unusual' thing this a.m. was that when I turned the lights on, the two BNs were on the glass at the top of the tank - usually, they're in the bottom third when the tank lights are turned on. They have now moved back down towards the bottom and ALL of the other fishes seem to be in their usual positions in the water column.

I'm guessing as I can't see anything other than the flashing, it's probably an internal bacterial infection - I had similar a few months back and successfully treated with Interpet No.9.

If anyone thinks it could be something else, please let me know and advise on treatment/medication etc

Thanks in advance

Justin

have you used any aerosols or scented candles etc near the tank recently?

Are they rubbing or just flashing? It could be flukes but its strange that its progressed so quickly.

Until there is a diagnosis i would do a water change on the tank, can work wonders sometimes :)

I try to make sure no aerosols are used in the room where the tank is.

Rubbing/flashing - thought it was the same thing. Will try to upload a vid later of the current behaviour.

Yeah, was thinking of doing a large (40-50%ish) water change later today and see how it goes from there

Check the gills to see if there red and inflamed, or pale with excess mucas on them.
Have any fish gone thin.
Are the fish swimming in a jerky movement.
Any fish darting around the tank.

No to all of the above.

Done a 40% water change this afternoon - will maybe just stick to more frequent water changes for the time being and see what happens. Don't want to use meds unless I have to, i guess

How many fish are flicking.

How many fish are flicking.

See point 5 of my original post - it is the majority of them (or at least it was yesterday).

Haven't really had a chance to observe them properly this morning as I'm back to work today.
No deaths though, touch wood!
Will check them out later and give them a closer inspection
