I have around 7 Yellow Labs in my 30g tank. I do weekly 30 to 50 percent water changes along with a gravel vac. There are plenty of rocks in there. I started out with 4 small ones in Jan. They grew and matured, but never mated. I sexed them by vent's, and realised I had 2m/2f , so I traded them and some small males I got from an auction with a friend of mine's females( he breeds them). So, that was about 3 weeks ago. Well, since then, 2 Labs have died. They looked healthy one minute, and dead the next. One died yesterday. Another a week and a half ago. The one yesterday looked like it got the crap beaten out of it.

That was the back story, but today, I just got home from highschool, looked into my tank, and saw my female with a mouth larger than normal. I was thinking, maybe there is a rock stuck in her mouth. But she just keeps it closed. And it isnt a BIG mouth, just bigger than normal. But, she sucks in a little water, and "swishes" it in her mouth, and then closes it. I believe she may be holding! I have some pic's if anyone would like to confirm it:

The female is the one in the middle, with the full body shot.

Sorry about the poor quality pic's, they cant be helped.

she is holding congrats that swishing that you see is her tumbling the eggs in her mouth. If you have a spare tank you should separate her and leave her with the fry for a bit before adding her back to the main tank so that she wont get worn out from spawning.

Thanks. I do have a 20 g flat hexagon tank with a breeding pair of bristlenose. Would that work?

It should I dont think the BRs will bother her at all just make sure to have some fry food ready in about 2 weeks

those will work greatly for them make sure to feed them a few times a day after thier egg sack is gone

Okay, you said have fry food read yin 2 weeks, right? I thought Labs held for 30 days. Or should I strip her( so she doesnt starve)

it depends really sometimes its 2 weeks sometimes more all depends on how fast they develop. Just make sure to have plenty of food for them when they arrive.

I got plenty of it. According to my fish club leader, the powder food I bought at the auction is the best stuff avalible ( its homemade from some old guy)

I moved the female to the 20g flat hex today. I removed all other fish. I did a 60 percent water change, to make sure it was clean and that the Nitrates were non-existant. Should I try feeding her? Or will she for sure not eat until they spit?
