Hiho all, I have wisteria in all out tanks. I have heard that if it reaches the surface it can turn into the surface growing varient, I have also noticed one of the smaller bit in one of our 40Gallon's has gone from normal aquatic style leaves to broad leaves. I compared these to pic's of wisteria I found on google and they look the same, is it possible for it to turn into the surface version while still being completely submerged?

PS this bit of plant has been recently (4-6 weeks) snipped from a larger one that was about 1/2 way up the tank (18")

It probably had been above water at sometime before you bought it. When I got my first wisteria at Petsmart, it had the broad leaves instead of the lacy leaves. The new leaves should grow out as the lacy type.

i had something similar happen....have been putting clippings from my 20 G planted into my 46 gallon (extremely low light, as in less than 1 WPG)...now that it has reached about 3/4 the way up the tank it is starting to form the broad leaves about 6" from the surface...if you have a very low light situation like me, then i say we have the same thing happening...these plants have never been growing out of the water

This clipping is the only one doing it and it started off with (and still has at the bottom 1/2) lacey leaves.
The light situation is mixed. Direct morning sun, drops a bit from 10-2 a bit of afternoon sun then lights on (1watt per gallon but thay are set about 2' above the tank) late afternoon

I'm not concerned just curious :dunno:

same thing for my tank.....indirect sunlight all morning, then no natural sunlight in the afternoon only around 1wpg .....bottom half still lacey and top is changing into the broad variety..chances are, rest of the clippings will eventually start to do it
