I have a plant which I think is wisteria which grows very well at the ends but suffers at the roots.

I have attached pictures so if someone could advice accordingly that would be great. I have co2 and dose with excel daily. It seems to be okay at the tip and I have new shoots coming out but the roots are brown and look like they are dying.

Excuse the filthy glass!!!

It looks like water sprite (Ceratopteris thalictroids). It is normally a floating plant but can be planted in the gravel. Sometimes the surface leaves rot and die and new underwater leaves grow. It has a very soft stem, which can be easily damaged. If it has been damaged then it will rot and go brown.
It doesn't seem to do as well in acid water. I doubt that you need CO2 for it. If you have lots of other plants in the tank and they get heaps of light then use CO2. But if there are only a few bits of that plant in there then turn the CO2 off until you get more plants.

Just read on another thread that it doesnt always like to be in the substrate so am going to try it just above the substrate and see if that stops the rotting of the leaves.

Cheers Colin
