Im thinking about planting some Dwarf Hairgrass in my 20 gal. tank. Once I plant it Im going to let it cover most of the floor. Once that happens Im going to trim it and make a path through it, winding it around objects to make it look like a trial. But Im wondering if this will affect me in the future.

* Once its covered the tank how will I clean my tank of fish waste?

* Im planning on buying a freshwater clam and Im wondering since it burrows under the gravel that it would unroot the grass?

I havent kept hair grass, but from my understanding, I believe it needs lots of light to thrive. What kind of light and how much do you have on the tank now?

As for cleaning, when you have plants in a tank, you don't really need to worry about vacuuming the stuff up as it acts as a fertalizer for the plants.

What so the fish waste will be good for them? As for the watts of the light bulb I dont know, Ive only had my 20 gallon and new to fish but I have the bulb that came with the aquarium. All I know is that its a fluorescent bulb.

I just had a look at a few plant info sites, and it turns out that it will grow in all light conditions... very low to very high, so you shouldnt have a problem with it. I must have been thinking of a different plant.

Yes... the waste is great for plants. I can't remember the last time I actually vacuumed it up. I just do water changes, no vacuuming. Just like maneur, it is a fertalizer for plants.

what about the clam? will its burrowing affect the roots of the plants?
